#909 909 - Patchwork Flowers

A patchwork of color – EdMar’s overdyed colors are suggested for stitching four original LadyFlowers in this Brazilian dimensional embroidery stitching adventure.

Joy, a pastel poinsettia, wears padded satin stitch and the reverse fly stitch leaf. Pansy’s ruffled skirt is raised off the fabric with the original raised buttonhole stitch and up-down detached buttonhole stitches. Camille is a camellia, stitched with the versatile combination stitch, the comma, and Shirley is the delicate Shirley Poppy, dressed with a star-fill center and woven buttonhole bullion petals.

Also a part of this design are the Forget-Me-Knots, made with the new knotted double loop and the colonial couch border stitch introduced on Millefiori design #841, Grandmother’s Flower Garden.

#908 908 - Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice

Peachy pinks, raspberry wine and lemon-drop yellows highlight a Brazilian dimensional embroidery design that features several original flowers, including two lovely roses. The Hibiscus or Rose-of-Sharon at the center of this design is stitched with unusual dimensional techniques for both petals and stamen, and the delicate pastels of the Queen Elizabeth Roses come alive with an easy drizzle technique.

These are some of the Millefiori LadyFlowers. Others include Violets, made with the piggyback cast-on, backwards buttonhole stitch and MilleFlower; Amy, the armadillo cast-on stitch, and Kate’s Cousin – a combination “cutie.” Lady Bells are stitched with an easy bell-stitch. Heather blooms with a lazy daisy combination stitch and the Heath, Erica, has flowers made with the Charisma knot. Greenery used to finish the design includes the reverse  fly stitch leaf, heather feather stitch, a new long-tailed fly stitch, Lady Fern fill, and Debbie Kelley’s serrated rose leaf.

#907 907 - Cymbidium Orchids

Light and lovely tropical flowers, these realistic Cymbidium Orchids will glow with bright and beautiful rayon floss.

The 5” circular design features several original Millefiori techniques – bundled bullions and detached buttonhole form the orchid’s cup, which is edged with the up-down detached buttonhole stitch. Background orchid petals are stitched with a double buttonhole stitch and the dimensional petals with the original woven picot bullion, featuring a new ‘twist’ for this design. Automatic couching for fine growth becomes a couching stitch itself for a second color, and tiny beads add sparkle.

The border is also a Millefiori original -- the versatile interlocking stem stitch. This is an advanced level Brazilian embroidery design.

The single cymbidium orchid shown at left is from the book, My LadyFlowers by Rosalie Wakefield.
